What Concrete Repair Involves
Surface crack repair involves routing or chasing the crack, cleaning it out, and filling with an appropriate material — epoxy, polyurethane, or cementitious filler depending on the crack type and whether future movement is expected. Spalled or scaled surfaces can be resurfaced with a bonded overlay when the base is sound and surface deterioration is the primary issue. Settled slabs can sometimes be addressed through foam injection rather than full replacement. Full replacement is recommended when the base has failed or when cracking is widespread rather than isolated.
When Repair Is the Right Call
Repair makes sense for isolated cracks in an otherwise sound slab, surface spalling or scaling that is aesthetic rather than structural, or a small failed section within a larger slab that is otherwise holding up well. You need full replacement when most of the slab is cracked, when sections are shifting at joints, or when water has been getting under the slab and eroding the base. We'll tell you directly which situation you're dealing with.
What Affects the Cost
Repair cost depends on the type and extent of damage. Crack injection is lower cost than resurfacing larger areas. Resurfacing is usually still less expensive than full replacement when the base is sound. There's no point patching a surface that will fail again due to base problems — we assess base condition before recommending any repair scope.
When to Call Someone Else
If your concrete has widespread cracking or sections that are actively shifting, we'll tell you upfront that repair isn't worth the money and give you a replacement quote instead. We don't sell patch jobs on concrete that needs replacement.
We serve Bloomfield and surrounding Essex County towns including Montclair, Glen Ridge, Nutley, Belleville, and Newark.
