What Foundation and Slab Work Involves
Foundation work starts below grade. We excavate to the required frost depth — 36 inches in New Jersey — set forms, place reinforcement, and pour the concrete. For floor slabs, we grade and compact the sub-base, install a vapor barrier where moisture control is needed, and pour to the specified thickness. Garage and utility slabs are typically 4 inches. Footings and structural slabs follow project-specific engineering specifications. Forms are stripped after the concrete reaches sufficient strength, and the area is backfilled. Most residential foundation pours complete in one to two days, with time for inspections before backfill.
When You Need Foundation Work
You need this service when building an addition, a detached garage, or doing a basement renovation that requires a new floor slab. You may also need repair or partial replacement if your existing basement floor has heaved, cracked significantly, or if water is entering through floor joints. Older garage slabs that have settled, cracked heavily, or scaled badly are also candidates for replacement.
What Affects the Cost
Excavation depth, soil conditions, reinforcement requirements, and whether a vapor barrier is included all affect cost. Projects that require engineering drawings or permit inspections add time up front. Site access for equipment is a factor on tight residential lots in Bloomfield and surrounding Essex County towns.
We serve Bloomfield and surrounding Essex County towns including Montclair, Glen Ridge, Nutley, Belleville, and Newark.
